Comments:
review taken from "Sean's CDR Trading Site", run by Sean Spindler:
Disc 1 & Disc 2 (1-5) recorded live at Hippodrome, France on July 4, 1987 (actually, tracks 2-6 on Disc 1 are from Rattle & Hum Outtakes). This was broadcast via satellite, but the show was incomplete. To make up for it, the missing tracks were substituted with those from R&H as mentioned above. Overall soundboard quality is decent. Disc 2 tracks 6-11 are Long Island rehearsals from unknown date in 1987.

The highlight of this bootleg may well be the inclusion of what amounts to the 1987 version of "The Working Tapes". U2 spent a day in the studio while in New York on the Joshua Tree tour. I'm not certain of the exact date, but I believe it was during the fall leg of the tour. Much of the time is spent practicing "She's Gonna Blow Your House Down", a folksy sounding rock tune that is quite unlike anything I have ever heard U2 play. Bono can be heard speaking with another man, I'm not sure who he is, throughout much of the recording. Edge also offers some input from time to time. It is fascinating to hear Bono talk his way through the development of these songs -- even if they weren't ever released. The last track consists of Bono and the unknown man listening to a previously recorded version of "She's Gonna Blow Your House Down" and critiquing it.

What happened?
Halfway through "With Or Without You" a big cloud of yellow smoke appears and the audience jolt back a few meters. People desperately cover their faces to avoid inhaling the stuff, while others panic and try to escape. Bono sees the chaos and is furious. "Hold it," he yells and the band stop. "I hope everything's OK down at the front here because nobody gets into trouble at a U2 concert, nobody gets hurt at a U2 concert! What is this stuff? Tear gas. I thought we have enough tears in this song." He continues and sings an improvisation that seems to summarise his feeling about this concert. "I was strolling down this Paris way, I walked through the streets in the light of the day and knew that summer had arrived, when I saw your eyes, when I see you. Well I hope that it was good - as it was good for me if it was good for you then it was good for me ...love .. love will tear us apart ... ".
