This is the original 'Fruitleg' and the best. As it was originally put together by the band, some thought has been put into the track listing and order, rather than just throwing together a random collection of remixes. And the band was very generous in their track selection as well. Of the nine tracks, only four are available on regular CD singles (and one of these, "Numb (The Souls Assassins Mix)", only became available on the 'Last Night On Earth' CD single, released three years after 'Melon'). "Lemon (The Perfecto Mix)" can be found on the 'Stay (Faraway, So Close) - Swing Format' CD single and "Salome (Zooromancer Remix)" can be found on the 'Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses' remix CD single. "Numb (Gimme Some More Dignity Mix)" can be found on a compilation CD called 'Special Brew', but the version here features an extra few seconds of sound right at the beginning. The track is a slow, funky workout that is very impressive. "Mysterious Way (The Perfecto Mix)" can only be found on the Australian only promo release which was available for a brief time on a bonus disc that came with the regular 'Mysterious Ways' CD single, and is now very difficult to find a legitimate copy of. "Stay (Underdog Mix)" is unique to this compilation and lightens the mood of the original without taking from its impact. "Mysterious Ways (Remixed by Massive Attack)" is also unique to this compilation and is very beautiful, combining the best attributes of both groups. "Even Better Than The Real Thing (The Perfecto Mix)" is found on the 'Even Better Than The Real Thing' remix CD single, whilst "Lemon (Bad Yard Club Mix)" is only otherwise available on the 12" vinyl single of 'Lemon' but here is found in perfect CD quality as it has been mastered from the original tapes. The album flows together very smoothly, with the bulk of the tracks in the middle of the CD having a steady groove, as opposed to the pounding techno of many remixes (there are some of those featured here as well). A highly recommended collection.
